Second evening of my New Mexico hunt and the 308 PA10 did the deed with Speer 165 BTSP's. First shot shredded half the liver, second was tight in the shoulder and shredded the lung. DRT on shot two. All three of our tags filled. Second MSR big game kill this season. The other with the Wolverine.

Here's a better pic.

Actually it was worrysome. Actually too warm and dry. First morning it was about 25...and the Elk were moving around. That morning one of my partners got an elk and we had a couple of other ops. Then 5 minutes before the end of shooting time my other partner got one. There was a bull in that group and they bunched up when he shot. Too risky for me. He had to put 5 30-06 rounds in that cow before it went down. What a mess. Two were gut shots. Glad it was the Guide's job to gut it, yuk!!

That night it warmed up and all we saw Sat morn were bulls and some huge mule deer. No cows were seen by 4 hunting groups. Too warm. Saturday evening it cooled and we ran into a herd of about 40 cows apparently fresh from the high country since they just stood there for my shots. 5 minutes before the end of shooting light. Damn dark it was. The cow took a step when I took the first shot and took it in the liver, turned and I put it in the shoulder. DRT on that shot.
