So. I have an unassembled, virgin M85 Krink kit. It's (supposed to be) a 5.56. I actually have another that is built as a 5.56. Fun little gun. Not the best barrel length/caliber combo though. Unfortunately for my wallet, a buddy of mine that's also a member here (Kracker) got me thinking about making that second kit a 10.5" wolverine krink. I think it'd be a great candidate for a 1 in 7 twist barrel.

What do you guys think?

I don't know how quiet the AK platform is suppressed. If i do build it you'd be welcome to give it a try though. I'm going to have to find a new smith since the one that built my other Krink stopped gunsmithing. Would have to get a barrel blank machined to the proper profile. Probably a pretty expensive build. Still really, really tempting.

We have two barrels getting done right now for a Bulgarian stamped receiver 5.56 AK barrel swap. Once these are done, we can make it happen for you.

I did my part! [biggrin]

Are there any threaded parts on these things?

You did and thanks! And except for muzzle threads, not really. The AK was designed around stamping and pressing and riveting.

Maybe I should have held onto that SLR-106?

[smile]

Can't wait to see that. When you do get that going, get a hold of Jim at Rifle Dynamics. He's a good guy, and he may be interested in the .277WLV.

On the krink the front sight post has threads on it. Barrel doesn't extend past the post assembly. I'll post a picture if I get a chance to dig it out of the safe today.

I don't know about the twin cites area, but this guy is pretty much the de facto AK builder right now. I believe he is in Maine?

So I am building the two Tantals in WLV right now - getting close to test fire actually - hope to have them done before SHOT.

Pretty strait-forward builds, the 5.45 bolts/extractors tolerate 5.56 case heads just fine - I use 5.56 brass to make 5.45 reloadable brass - so that's all good. Mags are the only issue, and not that it's hard to find one that works - it's just that the one that works is kind of expensive (Circle-10 Bulgy 5.56 mags).

I am also in the KNS Precision R&D department - so I am using some pre-production sample adjustable piston system units so that I can port the barrels big to run subs - then use the piston to bleed of excess gas when using supers. Barrel blanks I used are 1-7.

Should have the second barrel populated tonight, then just a bit of riveting and applying the finish.

A Krink style AK in WLV would also be no more difficult than building any other AK if you can make your own barrel. AK parts are getting more expensive - but the actual work is no big deal.
